The Divine-human partnership is a marvelous and mysterious relationship. On the one hand, we labor and toil and struggle. On the other hand, it is Jesus Christ who provides His energy and He is the one working. The relationship implies that eternal results are not from our efforts apart from Christ and yet it is not a matter of us sitting back and doing nothing.
The Apostle Paul declared, “For this I toil, struggling with all His energy that He powerfully works within me” (Colossians 1:29). The context of the verse is the proclaiming of Jesus as salvation, the teaching of Christians, and the labor to help Believers grow unto maturity in Christ (Colossians 1:28). But I believe that the principle of the verse can be applied to all of our labors and endeavors in life – school, work, family, friendships. If we happen to feel overwhelmed it may be a good time to pause and ask ourselves whether we are relying on our own energy or if we are alongside of Christ and using His energy and allowing Him to work through us.
