I linked to a couple of videos on the Resurgence blog about the persecution of Christians in India and nearly vomited and wept. I first saw the edited three minute video with a response by Francis Chan of Cornerstone Church and teared up at the attacks. Then I clicked the link to the unedited seven minute long video and nearly threw up.
WARNING: DO NOT CLICK THE LINK IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH OR THINK VIOLENCE DONE ON HELPLESS PEOPLE IS FUNNY.
To hear about Christians under persecution and suffering even unto death is one thing, but to see it recorded on home video brought these attacks into my life in a whole new level. Men and women being beaten and killed for bringing the message of the love of Jesus Christ to India. Suffering and dying without fighting back while citizens and police do nothing to stop the attacks. Under constant pressure to deny their faith in order to escape future persecution.
In the United States we consider it persecution when we are made fun of for our faith, cursed out, called bigoted and stupid for following Jesus. We face calls to compromise to the morally relative culture and to accept the pluralistic worldviews of our society. There is no denying that this is persecution, but seeing what is happening in India in the video clips makes the suffering that Jesus and the faithful in the Bible faced much more real. Yes, in the United States we do face real suffering for the faith, there is no denying that, but just a quick glance at the clips should throw away all of our gripes about not having enough money or stuff (things that are just pipe dreams for the majority of the world’s population yet we feel entitled to as Americans).
*Note: There have been questions raised as to whether or not the people in the videos were Christians being attacked and so the videos on my link have been removed until the reports can be confirmed or denied (but you can still find them on YouTube). I will edit this post if needed depending on the confirmation or denial of these reports. What can be confirmed though is that such violent attacks due indeed occur in India against Christians.
