I came across a link to a graphic entitled, Charity: Who Cares?, on MintLife. Some of the statistics are very telling when it comes to human greed as well as our desire to help others.
Here are a few of the statistics and facts that I found interesting and telling:
- Religious people give more (financially & with their time) to secular causes than secular people.
- Those who earn less than $20,000 per year are twice as generous (by percentage of income) than those who earn more than $100,000. The top reason given by the latter group as to why they don’t give more: They can’t afford it.
- The wealthiest 10% of Americans contribute 25% of all charitable giving.
- Conservatives are more charitable than liberals.
