I heard a good message this past Sunday at UA Christian Assembly on the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. It was basically a verse by verse exposition of the verses. You can listen to it here.
One of my favorite aspects of the sermon was when John Myer brought out that there is no way to effectively serve the Lord and be pleasing to Him without taking the risk of embarrassment, disappointment, etc. If we don’t know what to do with ourselves and what God has given to us the best thing to do is to invest yourself with the church. In the church there are people who are thinking about how to help you make a spiritual profit for the Lord.
It is a shame for a Christian to live their entire Christian life and never do anything to profit the kingdom of God; instead being concerned about “what am I going to get?”. To be self-centered rather than focused on how to further God’s interests on the earth using their ability plus the redemptive talent given to them on the day that they believed.
