Review of “The End of Reason”

I recently finished The End of Reason: A Response to the New Atheists by Ravi Zacharias.  It is a direct response to Sam Harris’ The End of Faith and his Letter to a Christian Nation, though Ravi also addresses other “new atheists” such as Dawkins & Hitchens.

I could tell that Ravi Zacharias was very frustrated that Harris and his colleagues wouEnd of Reasonld promote such philosophical & historically inaccurate nonsense in their writings – attempting to appeal to emotions with false “facts”, straw men arguments, creating inaccurate claims that science and faith are opposed to one another, asserting an intellectual superiority of the atheistic worldview, and more.  The author easily and quickly debunks Harris’ claims and arguments and “exposes the utter bankruptcy of this worldview” (quote from the back cover of the book) in a way that is readily understandable by your average (or slightly above average) reader.

On the down side, I found that this book was at times a bit too emotionally charged.  Though I understand and share the anger & sadness that Harris and his colleagues would so aggressively attempt to manipulate people into hating God, anyone with a theistic worldview, and Christians in particular with such falsehoods, I would have preferred a little less emotionally charged book (like the other books that Ravi Zacharias has authored in the past).

Overall, I will give The End of Reason 3.5 out of 5 stars.
